Young Eagles
Launched in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated more than 30 years to giving youth ages 8–17 their first free ride in an airplane. It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation. Today, more than 2 million young people have enjoyed a free introductory flight through the Young Eagles program. These flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.
I want to give our Young Eagle volunteers a huge round of applause, we hustled two YE events (one month apart) and flew 47 kids! We had volunteers from as far away as Colorado and kids who came from Moriarty, Albuquerque, Peñasco, Española, Abiquiu, Los Alamos, and Santa Fe. Two members let us use their aircraft as static display at E14 and answered questions the parents and kids had about aviation. CAP was a great help in providing information and entertainment at the LAM rally. Both events were catered by the airport managers at LAM and E14, and we had a great response from the community. Thank you to everyone who made this happen.

In March 2023 there was a Young Eagles Workshop at Los Alamos airport. This is a STEM activity where kids can learn about aviation, navigation, communication and building airplanes. Read the newspaper coverage of the event here.
EAA Chapter 691 hosted two Young Eagle Rallies in the summer and fall of 2022 after a pandemic hiatus,. We gave about 50 kids free airplane rides and introduced many of them to their first flying experience. Whether you’ve had a Young Eagle flight before, or this is your first, EAA Chapter 691 encourages kids ages 8-17 to come fly with us! Some photos from the events:
